Kiara Carrasco was recently elected Student Body President at Texas A&M University at Galveston. Kiara is a member of the 2022 cohort of Science Influencers and is a marine biology major.
Her platform included advocacy, communication, tradition and support. Some of her goals include increasing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives on campus, collaborate with student organizations on campus-wide events and initiatives, and ensure student leaders have the resources they need to further develop their skills.
Kiara said she has applied what she’s learned from her involvement in Science Influencers to her campaign. “Communication was one of the pillars of my campaign, and I think it’s important to recognize that programs like this one truly do play a role in helping us make those connections not only in science, but in the rest of our lives as well,” said Carrasco.
The knowledge and experience I’ve gained from this program has allowed me to better connect with both the student body and faculty and staff at my university,
Kiara Carrasco
Kiara currently serves as the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and chair of the Academic Affairs committee for the Student Government Association. She will be sworn in at the end of April and will serve in the role until the end of Spring 2023.
