Alexandra Ash

Welcome to the science realm, where every element plays a vital role. If you look closely enough, you’ll find that fungi networks have more than one place they like to call home—food! As a science communicator, Alexandra is captivated by the unusual connection between fungi and food, and she is ready to explore this connection.

Alexandra’s research will tackle harmful fungal diseases and what makes them tick—especially at the root of their devastating effects on staple crops as shockingly, nearly a quarter of the world’s harvested crops are affected by mycotoxins. Natural compounds in fungal pathogens can compromise human, plant, and animal health, resulting in billion-dollar agricultural losses that negatively impact consumer prices.

Alexandra also studies fungal pathogens’ cellular and molecular structure to help generate new insights for developing effective antifungal drugs.

Join Alexandra as she learns more about fungi and works toward innovative solutions to protect the food system, consumers’ health, and prices.
