Alyssa Ramos is a junior agriculture science major with a teaching certification and a minor in chemistry at Texas A&M University–Kingsville. Her academic interests center on the intersection of research and education, particularly how learning environments and instructional approaches influence student engagement and success. She has conducted research under the mentorship of Steven Chumbley, examining ethnic identity among undergraduate agriculture majors and how cultural representation in the classroom can affect learning experiences.
Building on this work, Alyssa’s current research interests focus on the effectiveness of AI-enhanced welding technology compared to traditional teaching methods, with an emphasis on hands-on learning, skill development, and engagement in trade education. She plans to pursue a career as an agricultural science teacher or county extension agent, where she can combine research, education, and mentorship. Through the Science Influencers REEU program, Alyssa hopes to continue developing her research skills and engage in science communication that supports innovative, inclusive teaching practices in agriculture.
