Fernanda Arcos is a senior Agricultural Communications and Journalism major. After graduation, she plans to attend vet school to fulfill her dream of becoming a veterinarian. Fernanda is passionate about science communications, particularly when giving a voice to those in need and educating people to make good decisions regarding their health.
“My specific interests within veterinary medicine are in small animal and domestic wildlife medicine with a focus in emergency and urgent care,” says Fernanda. “A wide spectrum of illnesses, injuries, and toxicities ranging from acute kidney injury to snakebite and from severe trauma to diabetic ketoacidosis and urinary blockages, are experienced by dogs, cats, horses, and other veterinary patients throughout the world.” Veterinary emergency care, a rapidly-increasing specialty within veterinary medicine, can help combat these issues through different interventions and treatments. Fernanda, with a dream to be a vet and a desire to help others, wishes to join this specialized field of veterinary medicine.
