Emily Maners is an agricultural communications and journalism major with minors in graphic design and poultry science whose academic work centers on improving agricultural literacy and public understanding of the industry. Growing up in California as a fifth-generation agriculturalist, she recognized a disconnect between producers and consumers, an experience that influenced her decision to pursue agricultural communications at Texas A&M University.
Through her coursework, Emily has focused on using communication to eliminate misconceptions about agriculture and support informed decision-making among the public. Her graphic design minor allows her to advocate for agriculture through visual communication by presenting complex topics in accessible, easy-to-digest formats. Mentored by Holli Leggette through the Science Influencers REEU program, Emily hopes to strengthen her ability to communicate agricultural topics across multiple platforms, ensuring advances in technology, sustainability, and land stewardship are effectively conveyed to consumers and communities.
