Kira McArthur a marine biology major at Texas A&M University–Galveston, grew up by the ocean in Southern California, where her fascination with coastal ecosystems first began. “I’ve always been drawn to how living systems adapt and rebuild,” she said. Her research interests center on the resiliency of coastal environments and the structures that protect them.
As part of the Science Influencers program, Kira is studying dune systems and how they sustain both natural and human communities. Her work reflects her belief that science is not only about discovery but also stewardship — protecting what sustains us. Outside of academics, she enjoys spending time near the water, exploring and staying active outdoors. Kira hopes to use her voice and platform to make marine science more approachable, showing that understanding the coast begins with caring for it.
